LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Human Rights Campaign is celebrating the best in online videos with a brand new award named the HRC Los Angeles Gala E-Hero Award. The nation’s largest GLBT civil rights organization is tipping its hat to the men and women whose online contributions have had an undeniable impact on the GLBT community.
“The internet has become such an important tool in our fight for equality,” said Parker Williams, co-chair of the event. “In 2008, enterprising and passionate individuals and organizations really stepped up the fight in creative and entertaining ways and we believe it’s time to honor their activism and celebrate their ingenuity.”
The HRC E-Hero Award will be awarded to the most influential, inspirational, and entertaining online video of the year. To qualify for the E-Hero Award, videos were created specifically for online viewing and reached their widest audience on the web sometime in 2008. In addition, E-Hero videos have had a positive impact on the GLBT community and have a running time of six minutes or less.
“In the weeks leading up to the Los Angeles Gala, we will be posting the five finalists selected from hundreds of nominated videos,” said event co-chair Kelsey Bray. “We invite HRC members and members of the community to nominate videos by emailing a link to them at eheroaward@hrcladinner.com.”
One exciting aspect of the E-Hero Award is that on the night of the gala event, guests will be able to chose the winner live via text messaging after all the videos have been screened at the dinner. Guests will be urged to use their cell phones to TEXT vote for their favorite viral video and the winner will be announced at the during the dinner.
