Los Angeles Sparks Support HRC’s Women Partners

HRC LA women leaders (l to r) Sue LaVaccare, Deb Gutierrez, Jessica Bair & Christine Pease - Sparks Women's Event - 22 June 2008

On 22 June 2008, the Los Angeles Sparks soundly defeated the Indiana Fever, as the women of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Los Angeles Steering Committee (LA SC) cheered, socialized and discussed the next steps in the fight for equality.

The Sparks donated thirty courtside seats and VIP autograph session passes to women who joined HRC as Partners at the 2007 Women’s Garden Party and volunteers for the Equality for All “Vow to Vote No” campaign.  The women of HRC had an amazing view as the Sparks trounced the Fever 77-63, and watched history as Candace Parker became the second women to dunk in a WMBA game.

“It is wonderful to see so many mothers and daughters at the Sparks game this evening, cheering on these strong women athletes and leaders,” said Jessica Bair, co-chair of HRC LA SC.  “We appreciate the Sparks supporting the women of HRC; and demonstrating their commitment to equality for lesbian, bisexual and transgender women.”

The HRC Sparks Women’s Night was organized by Sue LaVaccare, HRC Board of Governors, and Steve Fisher, co-chair Membership & Community Events.  HRC leaders in attendance included Deb Gutierrez, HRC Board of Governors and co-chair Membership & Community Events; Christine Pease, co-chair Volunteer Committee; and Valerie Ploumpis, former co-chair HRC National Dinner Committee.
