Los Angeles City Celebrates GLBT Pride at HRC Donated Breakfast

HRC Los Angeles Steering Committee members and volunteers at LA City 2nd Annual LGBT Pride Month Celebration

On the bright Friday morning of 27 June 2008, the Los Angeles City Council held its 2nd Annual LGBT Pride Month Celebration at City Hall.

On behalf of the City of Los Angeles, council members Bill Rosendahl and Bernard Parks honored the LGBT community and celebrated the many recent tremendous advances in the GLBT civil rights movement, at a breakfast reception donated by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). They were joined by representatives of the office of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Police Chief William Bratton, and Redondo Beach Mayor Mike Gin, as well as numerous additional dignitaries.

Council member Rosendahl thanked the HRC for itsBill Rosendahl leadership in the LGBT fight for Equality, and particularly in the current battle to retain marriage rights. He also thanked HRC for the generous sponsorship of the celebration breakfast.

The City Council held an awards ceremony after the reception in the Council Chambers, where Mayor Villaraigosa also highlighted the role of HRC in LGBT equality.

“We appreciate the recognition of HRC from the Los Angeles City Council and the Mayor,” said Jessica Bair, co-chair of the HRC Los Angeles Steering Committee. “It is gratifying to have a partnership with fair-minded elected officials in the fight for Equality, and we will continue to work to elect such officials at the local, state and national levels.”
