HRC Los Angeles Shows Our Pride 365 -- 40 Years Since Stonewall

HRC Los Angeles members and Los Angeles Derby Dolls - Pride Parade - 14 June 09

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Los Angeles Steering Committee (LA SC) welcomes the 387 new members who joined the fight for Equality during Pride weekend, 12-14 June 2009 in West Hollywood.

The HRC team of staff from Washington, DC and LA SC members and volunteers enjoyed a fabulous weekend of fun, music, refreshments and promoting equality. The HRC booth was again located just east of the Main Stage, and was well recognized by attendees for the trademark gold equality symbol on a field of blue. 50 of the new members joined as Partners, contributing at least $10 per month for Equality.

HRC leaders and volunteers also marched in the Pride Parade down Santa Monica Blvd, carrying the HRC flag, led by the Los Angeles Derby Dolls. “As we celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Stonewall this month of June, we are reminded of the struggles for GLBT rights by pioneer activists,” said Jessica Bair, co-chair of the HRC LA SC. “We welcome our newest members to the HRC family, and invite them to get involved by attending the many events here in Los Angeles, as we fight together for Equality.”

The priority for the next 17 months will be to repeal Prop 8, pass the Federal Hate Crimes and ENDA, and repeal DOMA and DADT. We encourage you to get involved with contributions and/or with your time.
